Fall 2004 ZCS Tournament Format

The ZCS Tournament will be played in three Rounds.  The first two will be in a Round Robin Format, and the third Round will be a Single Elimination, best 3 out of 5.

Round 1

ZCS players will be randomly divided into brackets of between 12 and 16 players.  Public dice rolls will be used to randomly distribute the field into the brackets.  Each Player will play every player in their bracket a single 15-point match.

The top 32 players from Round 1 will advance to the Second Round and will be split evenly in two brackets.

The advancing players will be made up of the top 6 from each bracket, and the top 2 at large.  Advancement will be determined by
the number of accumulated wins in Round 1.  Note that these numbers may change, depending on the total number of brackets that are needed for Round 1.  In any event, a total of 32 players will advance from Round 1 to the Second Round.

Ties will be resolved by reference to:

·        first by the number of wins against all the other players in that tie,

·        second, if necessary, by head to head performance.

Any remaining ties will be broken by an elimination or Round-Robin playoff.  The Host and directors will determine which method is most appropriate to the situation.

 Round 2

ZCS players will be randomly divided into two brackets of 16 players each.  Public dice rolls will be used to randomly distribute the field into the two brackets.  Each Player will play every player in their bracket a single 15-point match.

The top 4 players in each bracket will advance to Speciall All Final Eight Round
Advancement will be determined by the number of accumulated wins in Round 2.

Ties will be resolved by reference to:

·        first by the number of wins against all the other players in that tie,

·        second, if necessary, by head to head performance (first in Round 2, then in Round 1 if necessary)

·        third, if necessary, by comparison of Round 1 cumulative record.

Any remaining ties will be broken by an elimination or Round-Robin playoff.  The host and directors will determine which method is more appropriate to the situation.

ONLY  for this ZCS

Special All Final Eight Round
15 Pt Match
This round will include not only  the final eight from Round 2, but any previous ZCS Final Eight is eligible for this round.  Previous Final Eight qualifiers skip Rounds 1 and 2 and start their play in this round.

The format will be Round Robin bracket(s).  If the total number of all qualifiers, including this ZCS, are less than or equal to 16, there will be one bracket.  If there are more 16 players, then multiple brackets will be assigned in such a way as to keep the numbers as even as possible.

The top eight players will advance to Round 3.  Normal tie-breaking rules will apply where necessary.

Round 3 - Final Eight Elimination
Seeding will be determined by random dice roll.

After the order is determined, the first four sets of matches will be determined as follows:

The First Seed will choose an opponent from those seeded 5th through 8th.

The Second Seed will choose an opponent from the remaining players seeded 5th through 8th.

The Third Seed will do the same.

The Fourth Seed will play the remaining player.

The quarter-finals will be the best of five(5) 17-point matches.

The semi-finals will be the best of five(5) 19-point matches.

The finals will be the best of five(5) 21-point matches.
