Spring 2006 ZCS Tournament Format

The ZCS Tournament will be played in three Rounds.  The first two will be in a Round Robin Format, and the third Round will be a Single Elimination, best 3 out of 5.

Round 1

ZCS players will be randomly divided into brackets of between 12 and 16 players.  Public dice rolls will be used to randomly distribute the field into the brackets.  Each Player will play every player in their bracket a single 15-point match.

The top 32 players from Round 1 will advance to the Second Round and will be split evenly in two brackets.

The advancing players will be made up of an equal number from each bracket, and the number at large necessary to add up to 32 players.  Advancement will be determined by
the number of accumulated wins in Round 1.  Note that these numbers may change, depending on the total number of brackets that are needed for Round 1.  In any event, a total of 32 players will advance from Round 1 to the Second Round.  For example, if there are 6 brackets, then the top 5 from each bracket, and the top 2 at large will advance to Round2.

Ties will be resolved by reference to:

·        first by the number of wins against all the other players in that tie,

·        second, if necessary, by head to head performance.

Any remaining ties will be broken by an elimination or Round-Robin playoff.  The Host and directors will determine which method is most appropriate to the situation.

Replacement players will be taken from the 3rd Round Consolation Brackets of the ZCSQ
Order will be
determined prior to the start and posted on the forum prior to the start of the ZCS

Round 2

ZCS players will be randomly divided into two brackets of 16 players each.  Public dice rolls will be used to randomly distribute the field into the two brackets.  Each Player will play every player in their bracket a single 15-point match.

The top 8 players in each bracket will advance to Round 3.  Advancement will be determined by the number of accumulated wins in Round 2.

Ties will be resolved by reference to:

·        first by the number of wins against all the other players in that tie,

·        second, if necessary, by head to head performance (first in Round 2, then in Round 1 if necessary)

·        third, if necessary, by comparison of Round 1 cumulative record.

Any remaining ties will be broken by an elimination or Round-Robin playoff.  The host and directors will determine which method is more appropriate to the situation.

Replacement Players will be taken from Round 1 of the ZCS.
They will be selected from the Bracket the original player was selected from, if this is not possible they
will be selected from the Overall Players, starting with the Tiebreaker Matches

Round 3 - Final Sixteen Elimination
The final 16 will be seeded by their weighted cumulative record from both previous rounds.  (40% of Round 1 wins + 100% of the Round 2 wins).

Ties will be broken by random dice roll.

After the order is determined, the first eight sets of matches will be determined as follows:

The First Seed will choose an opponent from those seeded 9th through 16th.

The Second Seed will choose an opponent from the remaining players seeded 9th through 16th.

The Third – Seventh Seed will do the same.

The Eighth Seed will play the remaining player.

The Sweet 16 will be the best two (2) of three (3) 15 – point matches

The Final 8 will be the best three (3) of five (5) 15 – point matches

The semi-finals will be the best  three (3) of five(5) 15-point matches.

The finals will be the best three (3) of five(5) 17-point matches.

The final 8 of the ZCS from the current session will have the opportunity to be eligible for the next session of the ZCS.

Replacement Players will be taken from Round 2 of the ZCS.
They will be selected from the Bracket the original player was selected from, if this is not possible they
will be selected from the Overall Players, starting with the Tiebreaker Matches.
