Spring 2007 ZCS Tournament Format   



The ZCS Tournament will be played in four Rounds. The first three will be in a Round Robin Format, and the fourth Round will be a Single Elimination, best 2 out of 3 for the Final Sixteen, and best 3 out of 5 for the rest

For the Spring 2007 ZCS, all qualified entries will enter in Round 2, the total of how many will advance from Round 1 to Round 2, and the size of the remaining brackets will be announced after signups have closed..

Round 1 

ZCS players will be randomly divided into brackets of between 10 and 14 players.  Public dice rolls will be used to randomly distribute the field into the brackets.  Each Player will play every player in their bracket a single 15-point match. .


The advancing players will be made up of an equal number from each bracket, and a number at large necessary to even out the brackets for Round 2.  Only those players who have the most wins in Round 1, and make a sincere effort to play all their matches (see Rule 10) will advance

Ties will be resolved:

·        first totalling all the number of wins against all the other players in that tie in the same bracket.

·        second, by head to head performance.  

Any remaining ties will be broken by an elimination or Round-Robin playoff.  The Host and Tournament Coordinators will determine which method is most appropriate to the situation.

ZCS players will be randomly divided into even brackets between 10 to 14 players.  Public dice rolls will be used to randomly distribute the field into the brackets.  Each Player will play every player in their bracket a single 15-point match.   

The advancing players will be made up of an equal number from each bracket, and a number at large necessary to even out the brackets for Round 3.  Only those players who have the most wins in Round 2, and make a sincere effort to play all their matches (see Rule 10) will advance.

ZCS players will be randomly divided into two brackets of 16 players each.  Public dice rolls will be used to randomly distribute the field into the two brackets.  Each Player will play every player in their bracket a single 15-point match.   

The top 8 players in each bracket will advance to Round 4.  Advancement will be determined by the number of wins in Round 3.  Only those players who have the most wins in Round 3, and make a sincere effort to play all their matches (see Rule 10) will advance.

Ties will be resolved:

·        First by the number of wins against all the other players in that tie,

·        Second, if necessary, by head to head performance,

·        Third, if necessary, by comparison of Round 2 record.

Any remaining ties will be broken by an elimination or Round-Robin playoff.  The host and Tournament Coordinators will determine which method is more appropriate to the situation.

Replacement Players will be taken from Round 2 of the ZCS.
They will be selected from the Bracket the original player was selected.  If this is not possible they will be selected from the Overall Players, starting with the Tiebreaker Matches

Round 4 - Final Sixteen Elimination
The final 16 will be seeded by their weighted cumulative record from rounds 2 and 3.  (40% of Round 2 wins + 100% of the Round 3 wins).

Ties will be broken by random dice roll.

After the order is determined, the first eight sets of matches will be determined as follows:

The First Seed will choose an opponent from those seeded 9th through 16th.

The Second Seed will choose an opponent from the remaining players seeded 9th through 16th.

The Third – Seventh Seed will do the same.

The Eighth Seed will play the remaining player.

The Sweet 16 will be the best two (2) of three (3) 15 – point matches

The Final 8 will be the best three (3) of five (5) 15 – point matches

The semi-finals will be the best  three (3) of five(5) 15-point matches. 

The finals will be the best three (3) of five(5) 17-point matches.

The final 8 of the ZCS from the current session will have the opportunity to be eligible for the next session of the ZCS.
